Yonsei Institute of Women Resource Development was established in December 2002, and it was renamed to Yonsei Institute of Gender Studies in March 2007 with an aim to focus on research and policy development pertaining to Women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. While Yonsei Institute of Women Resource Development emphasized educational training and research that would benefit Yonsei women students, Yonsei Institute of Gender Studies aims to support both researchers and students by providing opportunities for academic engagement through partnerships with other faculties and services within and beyond the university.
